Open & Airy Style
Andrea Subotovsky & Ryan Smaldone
ITALKRAFT, Miami, FL
This 360-sq.-ft. kitchen was an integral part of this spec home, whose modern beach design was inspired by the private waterfront property in Miami Beach, FL. Andrea Subotovsky and Ryan Smaildone, along with architect Kobi Karp, created an open and airy design using floor-to-ceiling ITALKRAFT cabinetry that emphasized the height of the ceilings.
Every detail of the space was selected with minimalism in mind. Though the tall cabinet units throughout the kitchen delivered ample storage, their 11′ heights posed a challenge. The designers selected one single piece of custom teak veneer to span the specific height and width of each door, which created a cohesive, modern look and maintained each cabinet door’s structure and functionality. A semi-wall done in the same veneer separates the kitchen from the main living and eating area.
A towering stone wall fashioned from statuario marble draws the eye and maintains the airy aesthetic of the space. The 14′ island, which blends seamlessly with the wall and includes a combination gas and induction cooktop with large stainless hood above, is designed to act as a giant hangout, accommodating seating on either side.
The gourmet kitchen also features a Sub-Zero refrigerator and freezer, U-Line undercounter wine refrigerator, wall ovens and microwave from Wolf, and Bosch dishwasher. Black accents and light oak wood floors maintain the sleek appeal and the feeling of connection with the poolside outdoor barbecue area.
