Molly Switzer, AKBD, runs Molly N. Switzer Designs as a one-woman show, with the goal of keeping her business as uncomplicated as possible for both herself and her clients. With a focus on transparency, communication, honesty and trust, Switzer plays roles from that of a contracted specifier to a designer of entire home interiors – complete with construction plans and specifications. She also acts as a trusted ear to bend during the most stressful of processes.
Besides running a successful business, in 2018 Switzer took over as president of the Columbia River Chapter of the National Kitchen & Bath Association. In that role, she knew she needed to refresh a lot of the ideas in how the chapter would run, while adjusting to a national reduction of the 10-member board to five-member council. Switzer also serves on NKBA’s National CLC (chapter leadership committee) to help open the lines of communication between chapters and the national association. This year, she was honored by her peers as NKBA’s President of the Year and officer of the year for 2020.
It is her goal to be an educator to not only her clients but also her peers. Prior to COVID-19, she held in-person educational product-knowledge events in her home (a neutral location), where she used her connections with product representatives to bring hands-on learning opportunities to local independent designers. This is to further her belief that educating fellow designers improves the industry as a whole.
