Madeleine Dymling, LEED AP, CAPS, AKBD, believes in being generous with her knowledge by mentoring novice professionals.
Dymling’s own path began when she earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Interior Design and Furniture Design from Kendall College of Art and Design (now a Ferris State affiliate) in Grand Rapids, MI. Her first jobs out of school were with large architectural firms in New York City. Among other jobs throughout her career, she was a senior designer for a replacement hospital for the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, FL.
Dymling next joined a boutique architectural firm that did high-end residential projects and boutique hotels, although her first residential experience was as a student at Kendall when she assisted kitchen designer and fellow KBDN Innovator Linda Larish, CMKBD, with drafting.
When she started Flatbrook & Co., the work seemed to gravitate towards kitchens and baths, large projects where an addition was involved or a total relocation of the kitchen or bath. Today, she is the president of Flatbrook & Co., in Canaan, NY, a company that takes pride in shaping new emerging talents. Flatbrook is a multi-disciplinary company that works in a variety of mediums, such as ceramics, fine woodworking, metal work and custom prints, all of which are incorporated in various Flatbrook projects.
