Madeleine Dymling

The owners of this 70-sq.-ft. bathroom inside a rural Chatham, NY farmhouse wanted to incorporate the old and the new when they decided to renovate their tired 90’s bathroom. Designer Madeleine Dymling achieved this aesthetic by using antique wall sconces from the early 1900s and an antique sink from the late 1800s. She was able to  match the sink’s patina to one of Kohler’s bisque samples for the tub and toilet.

Incorporating a showerhead above the Kohler iron clawfoot tub was challenging due to the low ceiling height, but a solution was found by installing a flush rain showerhead in the ceiling. The showerhead and faucets, along with all of the hardware and accessories in the room, are part of the Henry collection from Waterworks.

The wainscoting is painted in a dark, muted tone from Farrow and Ball, and the cabinet, which was custom made by local millworker Countryside Woodcraft and painted the same color as the wainscoting, is recessed into the wall to create more space. The Cle concrete tile on the floor provides a repetitive pattern that adds energy.
