Small and mighty is the way to describe this 96-sq.-ft. kitchen, designed by elizaBeth Marcocci, CMKBD, CAPS. The client, who is an artist, wanted the condo kitchen to be created around several pieces of original artwork, all while delivering a more open floor plan and additional storage and counter space.
The new, contemporary design made better use of a pass-through between the kitchen and dining area, increasing the amount of natural light and allowing the client’s paintings to be enjoyed from all three areas.
Signature Custom Cabinetry’s iQ Series frameless cabinetry in Bianco textured DLV was used to increase usable storage space. The new base storage includes 18″ drawers instead of 12″, as well as an 18″ trash pull out, an 18″ base storage pullout, and a 27″ two-drawer base with Modern Metro pulls in chrome from Top Knobs. Top hinged and bi-fold hinged 14″-deep wall cabinets are also featured, ended with floating shelves illuminated with Häfele Loox lighting.
Cabinet and counter space were enhanced through the use of smaller appliances, including an 18″ dishwasher, 24″ induction cooktop, 24″ speed oven, 24″x80″ refrigerator/freezer and 24″ pull-out hood, all from Bosch. A 23″ Kraus workstation sink with InSinkErator garbage disposal and Grohe chrome faucet also take up less room.
The white cabinetry and honed Black San Marcos granite countertop provide the ideal backdrop for the custom 21″-high backsplash, which was painted by artist Tim Hoover.
A multi-functional table/island unit on tiny casters was created to meet the needs of the client. It sits over the separate storage cabinet and pulls out when needed.
